Hull
considers environmental impacts and opportunities for
environmental improvements in our internal operations
and engineering and project development services
through our "Hull Goes More Green" companywide
sustainability program.
We used information from a comprehensive
survey of our employees to help us establish a carbon
reduction and sustainability program to become more
environmentally-friendly. This highly-involved analysis
included data from each employee's daily commute to
work, utility consumption for Hull's seven offices, and
details on our recycling activities.
Our plan includes measurable tactics, such as having more web-based
meetings to help reduce travel, improving the energy
efficiency of our offices, using green cleaning
products, and recommending low-impact development or
renewable energy activities on our projects.

We
know that there are several opportunities to reduce environmental
impacts through our own operations, proactive actions
by our employees at work and at home, and by promoting
sustainable project solutions to our clients.
Hull helps our clients implement sustainable
activities through energy efficiency audits, renewable
and alternative energy production, landfill reuse, brownfield
redevelopment, innovative storm water management, and
wetland and habitat restoration. So many of the sustainable
actions we complete and promote are not only good for
the environment, they also make good business sense.
As an engineering and project development company, Hull
is in a unique position to act responsibly and to help
others act responsibly, but the good news is that everyone
has an important role to play with this environmental
effort.
We are excited about our "Hull Goes
More Green" program and hope that others are also
contemplating their current practices to identify opportunities
to reduce their carbon footprint. Stay tuned as we continue
to strive
to educate our employees, clients and friends on opportunities
to become better environmental stewards.
Some of the ways "Hull Goes More
Green":
- Significantly reduced carbon footprint
by transitioning Hull INSIDE newsletter to an electronically
distributed e-newsletter;
- Switched to environmentally-friendly
office cleaning products in each of our seven offices;
- Upgraded technology to enable internet-based
meetings between offices to reduce internal travel;
- Improved office recycling/reuse practices;
- Identified opportunities to buy more
recycled content or reusable materials;
- Established plans with employees to
reduce product and energy use;
- Identified opportunities to promote
and reward sustainable practices in Hull's Giving
Back Program.
