Fort Hayes Campus Infrastructure Master Plan, Columbus, Ohio
Client: Columbus City Schools |
Columbus City Schools is preparing an Infrastructure Master Plan for the 77-acre Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center, an inner-city, K-12 campus. This campus is a national historic district and home to the arts, academics, and career programs set within the context of renovated buildings in a historic Civil War military base.
Hull is working with Kinzelman Kline Gossman to complete campus infrastructure and sustainability planning which will focus on vehicular and pedestrian circulation, open space, security, stormwater, sanitary sewers, water, energy and communications. All of these systems will be evaluated to determine the optimal solutions to serve the full build capacity of the campus. Among the sustainable improvements being considered are: reuse of existing buildings and materials, rainwater harvesting for irrigation, on-site solar and geothermal power generation, best practice storm water management techniques, short- and long-term resource conservation strategies, and the integration of sustainable design elements with school curriculum.
Hull is responsible for the assessment of existing utility infrastructure including stormwater management systems, sanitary sewers, potable water supply, grey water systems and natural gas, some of which dates back to the Civil War. The Master Plan will include proposed infrastructure necessary to fully develop the 77-acre campus. The Master Plan includes preparation of construction cost estimates and project phasing for future implementation.
