Control System Design Services
Hull is familiar with the leading control
system hardware and software used in industry today. Our diverse
background in many industries allows us to bring thoughtful
cost effective solutions to a control system project. Hull
has designed, programmed, and commissioned projects in a wide
range of industries.
Control Schematics
We can provide drawings detailing the component-wiring requirement
for motor control circuits, PLC input/output wiring, discrete
and analog instrumentation, drive interface, and misc. control
component wiring.
Process & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID)
Hull can provide drawings detailing the process flow with
details such as; process requirements instrument designations,
Instrumentation location and function, calibration information,
and area classification. Our scheme is developed according
to a wide range of specifications ranging from ISA standards
to specific plant requirements.
System Architecture/Network
We will determine the proper components and cabling requirements
for industrial networks as required by the manufacturer of
the controller as well as TIA/EIA-568 standards. Typical networks
Hull is familiar with consist of: Ethernet, Control-net, Data
highway plus, Modbus, Modbus+, RS-485, and RS-232.
Instrumentation Specification & Loop
Diagrams
Hull has the ability and experience to select the proper instrument
for the application considering the process details and system
requirements. Loop Diagrams are an industry standard method
of showing the wiring connections between devices and power
supplies.
Hazardous Area Design
Hull is familiar with the NEC requirements for intrinsically
safe systems and explosion proof systems. Hull will specify
equipment and installation techniques according to the Class,
Division, and Group.
Control Panel Layout & BOM
We can provide detailed drawings required to build a control
panel housing control devices such as PLC's, control relays,
instrumentation, push buttons, pilot lights, and field terminals.
Hull has an understanding spacing requirements for heat generating
equipment, proper positioning of components to allow for maintenance,
and selection and quantity determination of terminals to meet
the application. Hull provides UL-508 and UL-698 listed panels.
Quality Control
Hull adheres to a strict quality control checkout procedure
to assure the design details are consistent throughout the
drawings. Peer review and team cross-check's are utilized
in order to assure the drawings are correct. This requires
advanced scheduling and planning in order to complete a project
on time.
Programming Services
Hull offers extensive experience providing control system
design and programming services utilizing Programmable Logic
Controllers (PLC's) and Operator Interface Terminal (OIT)
hardware and software [sometimes referred to as HMI or SCADA].
Hull personnel have designed, programmed, and commissioned
projects for a wide range of industries including: Food &
Drug, Automotive, Bulk Materials, Chemical, Glass, Petroleum,
Water & Waste Water, Warehousing, and many others.
Hull has experience applying the leading control
system hardware and software used in industry today. Our diverse
background in many industries allows us to bring thoughtful
cost effective solutions to a control system project. We offer
expertise in the selection, application, and configuration
of the major brands of PLC's and OIT's used in the U.S.
Hull's approach to program development is based
on years of success providing systems to clients with various
backgrounds and expectations. Direct contact, questions, and
clear communication between Hull and the client are keys to
providing the system needed, expected, within the project
budget, and according to the schedule.
Approach:
- Hull works with the
client to select the system that fits the application and
project budget;
- Hull provides a system operational description
that defines the system operation prior to writing any code;
- Hull's approach focuses on applying the
proper logic functions to the specific application;
- Hull provides PLC application software based
on time tested modules that have proved effective for many
industries;
- Hull does not attempt to commission software
until it has been tested in house.
- Hull works with the client to select the
system that fits the application and project budget; and
- Hull provides standard features that "bulletproof"
an application such as heartbeat alarms to indicate communication
failure with the PLC and various PLC hardware and software
faults.
Control System Supply and Commissioning
In addition to the design, programming, and startup of
automated control systems, Hull offers our client's one source
of supply for the complete system. Alternately, Hull will
provide specific components of a system to be installed by
others.
Equipment Supply and Installation
- Assembled and tested
control panels;
- Instrumentation (Discrete and Analog Gas
detection, Level, Flow, Pressure/Vacuum, Temperature sensors
and transmitters);
- Installation of equipment, conduit, and
wiring;
- SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition)
system supply and installation; and
- Industrial network installation.
Commissioning Services
- I/O Checkout; After
installation of conduit, wire, and instrumentation Hull
performs a detailed I/O checkout prior to running the system
to confirm wiring has been installed properly;
- Instrument & Device Adjustment is performed
in order to assure proper setup of devices and calibration
of instruments is required for a control system to operate
properly; and
- Software Commissioning, Process Tuning,
and Process validation is the final step that is performed
after the wiring is verified, devices adjusted, instruments
calibrated, and actuating devices operated (i.e. motor rotation).
This procedure consists of developing documentation of the
checkout procedure and tracking progress or "signing
off" on each process module as it is checked.
Hull has experience with vendors obtaining
equipment in a timely fashion for a competitive price to meet
the budget and schedule requirements of the project.
